Setting sail Saturday. Had to jump back to work early in order to get off in time for the November wedding, its kind of a big deal. Catching the ship in Houston for reflagging stuff, then to Charleston for cargo load and then the long journey to Mumbai, India. Yep another 30something day transit. Perhaps through the Suez canal, perhaps around South Africa, either way we’re going through Pirate waters. Its a long trip thats all I know.
Does NASA ever get things right the first time? Obviously not and that held true today. STS-127 was scheduled to launch today at 7:17 EDT from Canaveral so being in Ft. Lauderdale we decided to drive on up. Haha its just a 3 hr drive we thought….
09:30pm- pack up some snacks for roadtrip and day adventure
10:00pm- NASA says launch go ahead, time to sleep
12:17am- NASA cancels launches because of Hydrogen leak
12:20am- alarm goes off, NASA site has NO changes
12:40am- load car and off we go for Cocoa Beach (unaware of changes)
02:55am- NASA site updates FLIGHT POSTPONED
04:00am- pull into beach park pumped…we beat the crowd…JOKES ON US
04:01am- how far did yall drive? Yeah the launch was postponed at 1AM
04:04am- laughing hysterically as we drive straight back to Ft. Lauderdale
07:00am- thanks NASA…..how much do yall get paid to CHECK STUFF?
When Somalis chase after your 15knot ship at 30knots shooting AKs and RPG’s, its reassuring to know your company paid a few extra dollars for some beefy security. Merchant ships are completely defenseless on the open oceans, unable to carry weapons so without the security team we are left with fire hoses against bullets and projectiles. I got to play badASS for a few minutes.

Im not even sure of how long Ive been here anymore. The clicking sound of the shutter is all I here after shooting over 500 photos. Here a few more…too many to post and keep up to date everywhere. Head to FLICKR for most of the favs.

Another day of walking and snapping. That never gets old. Here a few more from the day past. You can see more at my FLICKR

We landed to find out that the ship won’t be here until the morning of the 13 at the earliest. That means time to see Istanbul. Luckily cafes and our hotel have wi-fi so I can share.

A hazy day, still clear and the sight of the lake from shore to shore are never a disappointment
